The following production was produced for Pro Wrestling News, your number one source for all the latest news!
A generic commentator's voice is heard before the scene opens. We enter a small, dark radio station studio with three microphones a few mixing boards and two people, one of which is Derek Stone. Derek sits with his hair pulled back in a pony tail with a black Ramones t-shirt, his legs and feet hidden beneath the desk that his black leather sits at. The man across from him is a young, perfect smiled blonde man with a charcoal colored button up shirt with a sky blue tie.
"Annnnnd welcome back to the Pro Wrestling News morning radio show, I'm your host Andy "The Caveman" Harding and my guest this morning is none other than King Wrestling Federation's own, Derek Stone. Welcome and thank you for coming in this morning Derek."
Derek:"Thank you Andy for having me, I won't call it an honor but I'll say it's interesting to be here."
Andy:"Well Derek, I've got to ask, even though I already know, maybe some of the fans don't, where have you been?"
Derek:"Around..."
Derek says non nonchalantly as he sips from his Arrowhead bottled water.
Andy:"Well that tells us a whole lot. The last time the majority of our listeners saw you, you fell about thirty feet into a dumpster full of light tubes. Kind a of a interesting resurrection of sorts."
Derek:"Andy, you and I go way back. I remember when I first met you in Philadelphia. What was that anyway nintey-nine? You were some punk trying to land a story for your mark magazine and I was a punk kid who was trying to make a buck getting my ass kicked. One story that you wrote made my career and launched yours. I would think by know you wouldn't start at the bottom of the barrel looking for a question."
Andy:"Yeah, it was ninety-nine at Global Wrestling's Clash of the Titans pay-per-view. You were the break away star that evening and I churched up a quick little story and the rest is history."
Derek:"So obviously somewhere in there I know you paid attention to my career. My accolades, My personal struggles that were taken through the mud, by your magazine by the way, and here you sit wanting to make small talk. Let's talk big business Andy, let's talk where I am now and what I am going to do."
Andy:"Well as reported, you've made quite the quick impact. You made the fans weekly top five rankings and even earned a shot at the Diamond Championship. I'd say you're well on the way to the top again, maybe this time you wont blow it."
Derek laughs sarcastically.
Derek:"If you want to make cheap shots and verbal jabs we'll do it. Remember Andy, I know more about you than anyone else. Your wife, your kids even your older brother who can't drag himself out of rehab long enough to see what the sun looks like. So if you want to make jokes, let's do it. If you want to talk business I'm all for it."
Andy squirms in his chair.
Andy:"Alright, so Cain Alexander. He calls himself the Prodigy, he's young, he's talented and he has what you want. That's not a good place for anyone to be, but If Derek Stone is in King Wrestling federation what he was in Global Wrestling I particularly feel bad for Cain Alexander."
Derek:"Well you're right about that. Not much has changed. Derek Stone isn't a marketing ploy. Derek Stone is not a persona or gimmick. Derek Stone is me. I wake up in the morning and do the same thing on screen that I do off screen. I offer people everywhere the insight of freedom of mind. Changing your opinion not your look. It's that personality that has made my career and at times broken it. Cain Alexander is young. Cain Alexander is talented. Cain Alexander is unprepared. Knowledge comes from mistakes. Mistakes come from bold decisions that evolve over a lifetime. If I'm not mistaken, Cain Alexander is merely eighteen years of age. A lot of the mistakes that shape you as a man have not even crossed the path of Mr. Alexander."
Derek takes another sip from his water before continuing to speak.
Derek:"In this case conventional wisdom favors the fool. A ladder match is a young man's game. An acrobatic man's game. I haven't been in a ladder match since two-thousand one. However, some things in life you just write to memory. A ladder match is like riding a bicycle, you never forget. The pain it can cause is tremendous, the risk involved is inhuman but on the other end of that erect ladder is the prize that I am willing to bleed and sweat and destroy for. The King Wrestling Federation Diamond Championship."
Andy:"It will be a physically challenging contest. I don't think age even plays an honest factor. You looked as crisp in that ring with James Bailey as I've seen you since the first three years you were in Global Wrestling. You look fresh, you look rejuvenated and most importantly I saw that look of determination that I saw taken clean out of you as I rode with you to the hospital in Toronto the night the doctor's said you would never walk again. I would go on record, no I will go on record the listener's everywhere that my pick to win this match is none other than Derek Stone."
Derek:"Well this Saturday night will be prove to be smoking gun Andy. If I win, so be it. I add another accolade to my list, but if I lose I face a tough choice. Continue down the path of least resistance or fully and completely unearth the Derek Stone of years gone by. You see my normal approach to this business as you know is I enter a locker room and I hunt down the guys with no self esteem. Guys that have everything it takes to be a legend, but no direction in which to follow. So far in King Wrestling Federation I've played the loner. I've stayed out of the way. I've let things, the politics, the games I've let them play out. Come Saturday Night Assault either I will be sitting with a nice piece of leverage to protect myself or I will be building the foundation of the resistance. I trust in my abilities that I will be able to do both simultaneously."
Andy:"Back to the days of the Nevermore."
Derek sits silent for a moment, staring at the black wooden table.
Derek:"Something more powerful."
Andy:"The Nevermore was the most powerful entity in Global Wrestling. The place didn't breathe unless you guy's allowed it to."
Derek:"And that was a mafia mentality. I don't want to discuss details, but if Derek Stone unleashes a force upon King Wrestling Federation the immediate effect will be minimal, but the long term will be felt for years to come."
Andy:"Well back to Cain Alexander, like we mentioned he's young, he's talented and he is the champion. The unique factor in this match is the ladder. In more ways than one. There is no honest champions advantage."
Derek:"Absolutely, and that doesn't level the playing field Andy that just opens the battlefield. You see necessity breeds invention. In a ladder match the idea, the trick to it if you will is to incapacitate the opponent long enough to climb to the top and take down the belt. The ladder itself is more than the object you need to get the belt down, but it crosses that gray area of being a object you can use as a tag team partner if you will. It works both ways, but Cain Alexander might be surprised what I have up my sleeve."
Andy:"What about Cain Alexander's pals in the Fallen. That's a pretty stacked group right there. You got the World Champion, and The Diamond Champion. Do you think they could play a role in this thing?"
Derek:"Why wouldn't they at least try? I mean, if I was breaking into your house and your roommates saw me, you think they would try and stop me? I think they would. It's about being prepared. Getting the job done quickly. I know, because if I was in their shoes I would do same thing, that given the chance they will defend what's theirs."
Andy:"Well we're almost out of time Derek, is there anything else you want to say?"
Derek:"Cain Alexander, I don't know if you're listening and I don't really care if you're listening. The fact of the matter is this, come Saturday Assault there will be a new Diamond Champion. There will be a new monarchy set in place, as the foundation gets poured this Saturday night. So Cain, they say silence is golden and diamonds are forever. Well I take your silence as fear, and that Diamond Championship as my prize. I'll see you Saturday."
The scene slowly fades to black as Andy's reactions to Derek last comments quietly fade into a whisper.
