*The camera opens on a scene of rugged countryside. The shrubs zip past the camera with great pace as the scene progresses. A voice is heard speaking over the scene.*
I know what you're doing, Tyler. I don't blame you either. You have got to be feeling pretty damn high right about now. You went into that match last week setting your sights on being the big dog.. and you did just that. You picked up the win, well done you. I'm sure your mother is proud to have such a wonderfully successful son that's able to win a match in a wrestling company. And from your momentus, life changing victory that shows you as clearly the best wrestler in the whole damn world... you've got to be feeling pretty damn confident going into this match with just the one of the men you already beat. One's less than two so it's gotta be easier, right?... right?... Well no. Sorry, wrong.
*The camera zooms out a little to reveal why the landscape is zooming past. We're inside a truck being driven by Milo Holland. He's not speaking at the moment but the voice is his, a voiceover playing over the current scene.*
Because first of all, you caught me off guard a couple of times. I made some mistakes I know that. That's why I'm on my way to a complex owned by my brother. He's going to walk me through the match and tell me exactly what I did wrong. A mistake isn't a mistake if you learn from it. Then it becomes a lesson. And I'm learning all the time. I'll admit, last week there was a little ring rust on me. I can't say it's all gone because it isn't, that kind of thing takes a little while to shake off... but I'm getting stronger every week, getting more and more settled into the ring again as I go. I'm only getting more and more dangerous and that spells one thing alone for you and everyone else. That spells trouble.
*Milo pulls into a side road. There's a building a short distance away and he gets there fairly quickly.*
But this is something you don't seem to have understood. Or maybe it's just something you don't want to. Because while most people coming up to a title match would be training themselves in some way, be it mental, physical, spiritual or whatever... you decide to go eat some soup... and then rob the store. I mean... I'm not the smartest person on the planet by any stretch of the imagination... but that's just dumb. First you're not getting any training done. Ok there's adrenaline and running and command and a few things in there... but there's not a whole lot you can apply to a wrestling match.
*Milo pulls up at the building's front entrance. Stood there is Dave Holland wearing a white lab coat. Milo parks and gets out of the car, approaching his brother.*
But that's not the biggest thing that I could draw attention to. The thing that is so monumentally stupid about what you did... was that you did it on television. There is now recorded evidence of you and your accomplice breaking the law. If the justice system was anything approaching even half competent you'd already be in jail. But you're not. And you won't be. So I'm going to have to do something about it myself. I'm going to take the law into my own hands and as punishment for your blatent disregard for the safety and wellbeing of others... I mean you blew a guys leg off. I didn't want to cause pain on that scale but if that's what has to be done to stop people like you from ruining this world then I'll do it. I'm going to stop your run at the USA Extreme Title at the first hurdle... and if I can, I'm going to break you doing it. Not because I want to... but because I have to.
*Milo reaches Dave, the scene moving in some kind of slow motion.*
Justice has a new name and that name is Milo Holland. It's not perfect, it still needs a few tweaks here and there... but that's why I came to the best for the help I need.
*The scene speeds up to real time as Dave leads his brother into the complex.*
Dave: Ok, Holland, listen up.
Milo: Holland?...
Dave: Today we will be concentrating on your failure of last week...
Milo: I didn't lose
Dave: Your failure of last week, particularly the who, why, where and when.
Milo: What about how?
Dave: I didn't know you were a native american.
Milo: What? Dude, that's racist.
Dave: How?
Milo: Yes, that. It's racist!
Dave: No, I mean... oh never mind. This way Holland.
*Dave leads Milo into a small room. There's a large screen at one end and beside it is a large pointing stick. Dave goes immediately to the stick and points to the single chair in the middle of the room for Milo to sit on. He does so.*
Dave: Now listen up, Holland...
Milo: You already said that.
Dave: I did? Well just do it this time, Ok?
Milo: Ok.
Dave: Now what we're going to do in here is analyse what happened in the match. Scene by scene. Overall your performance wasn't bad which'll be why you didn't lose, but by the same token you made some key mistakes, one of which was a critical error that must be drilled from your game entirely, are we clear?
Milo: Crystal.
Dave: Good. Now if you'll hit the lights Holland, we'll begin.
Milo: Can't you hit the lights yourself? The switch is right there.
*Milo points just to the side of Dave. Dave looks to his left and sure enough, there is the light switch.*
Dave: Don't be silly, I'm holding the stick now, I can't be hitting the lights too.
*Milo sighs before getting up from the chair, walking over to Dave and turning the lights off.*
Milo: Ok Professor?
Dave: Great, thank you. Now please take your seat.
*Milo does, with more than a few expletives under his breath.*
Dave: Now this first shot.
*Footage of the match begins. It's early on in the match after Milo's first display of power. Milo has his back turned as Lucas snatches his chance and runs at him, slamming Milo face first to the mat with a Bulldog. The picture freezes.*
Dave: Now, what happened here?
Milo: He snuck up on me.
Dave: And how did he do that?
Milo: By being a stealthy son of a bitch.
Dave: No Holland. He did it because you were too busy distracting yourself with the crowd. Now I love your spirit. Your new "I like the fans, I'm doing it for them" attitude is one that's been a while overdue... but because you're new to it you need to understand the fundamental rule of being a face.
Milo: And what's that?
Dave: There's a time and a place. That time is certainly not within the first five minutes of the match, and is certainly not within a triple threat match with your back turned on not one, but both opponents. You have to be smart Holland! Don't worry about the crowd, they don't mind you concentrating on the match for that particular moment of time.
Milo: Right... be smart. Got it.
Dave: NEXT!
*The video proceeds to the next clip. It's later in the match after Milo has made a pin attempt that was kicked out. Milo can't believe it, His mouth wide open in utter shock. Milo stands up, Bassman standing a few steps behind him. The crowd are on there feet, Milo turns round and Bassman Charges at him, Hitting him with a clothesline. Picture freezes again.*
Milo: Same again.. be smart, got it.
Dave: No. Not the same. Similar, admittedly, but not the same. Tell me, Holland, in your career, across your pin attempts, what's the ratio of kickouts to successful pins?
Milo: I.. don't know to be honest.
Dave: Well, can you tell me is it 100 percent?
Milo: .... no.
Dave: Then how on earth could you have been so certain that it was over? Why so shocked that he kicked out?
Milo: Because he'd just been hit with a Flame's End! Not many people ever kick out of that.
Dave: We'll take a look at that in a minute, but first understand this. It doesn't matter what you hit them with, doesn't matter what they've taken, who they are or when you pin them... always.. ALWAYS... expect them to kick out. That way you're not left gawping while someone comes up from behind and kills your momentum. Got it?
Milo: Got it.
Dave: Good. Now let's have a look at that finisher... NEXT!
*Next scene, Milo and Tyler Lucas are slogging it out. Milo manages to block one of lucas' attacks and goes in for the Flame's End, He gets lucas ready for the tombstone piledriver as Bassman comes running towards them, Milo turns and hits Bassman with a big boot, then hits his finisher on Lucas*
Milo: What was wrong with that? I dealt with Bassman and didn't miss a stride.
Dave: No, you're right. The way you dealt with Joe was textbook. But I want you to look at Tyler's head position as you land the drop. What do you notice about it?
Milo: ... Nothing especially different.
Dave: Well let's take a look at this stock footage.
*The frozen image splitscreens to one half vertically as another scene plays. Milo is fighting another unrecognisable wrestler. He nails the flame's end on him but the move is frozen at the same point as the first.*
Dave: You see?
Milo: No.
Dave: You're holding Lucas higher. His impact on the canvas was therefore lessened. You pulled your punch.
Milo: What?
Dave: Again... your new face attitude has made you think you shouldn't try to seriously injure your opponent. You should make sure that you win, but that you don't hurt them. That's not how it works. Take my right foot. The Magic Touch. You think I hold back from that kick just to make sure people's necks don't snap?
Milo: No.
Dave: No. And how often have people kicked out from it?
Milo: I dunno.
Dave: ... Nor me.. but it's not much. Ninety something percent success rate I'd imagine. But that's not the only reason your finisher wasn't as effective. You did more than consciously pull the punch.
Milo: What? What else did I do wrong?
Dave: This. NEXT!
*Final scene. Milo Climbs up the turnbuckle, The crowd stand up, in awe of what could be coming next. Milo waits a moment for the men to begin standing up, He jumps, hitting them both with a huge body splash.*
Milo: What? I hit them!!
Dave: It doesn't matter. Did you know that if you fall from high enough, landing on water has the same effect as landing on concrete?
Milo: No..
Dave: And what posessed you to climb anyway?
Milo: I figured I'm big, I'm heavy.. I could do some real damage to them.
Dave: Using gravity.
Milo: Exactly.
Dave: Do you know why people use gravity to deal damage?
Milo: Well...
Dave: Because they don't have the strength to include any really high impact moves like the bigger, stronger men like you can. They do it to fill a void in their moveset. A void you don't have.
Milo: Oh...
Dave: All you did was put your body on the line and inflict half as much damage on both those guys as you inflicted on yourself. What you did.. was suicide for no real gain. That's why you couldn't throw all you had into the Flame's End, that's why Lucas kicked out, that's why Bassman got the drop on you and that's why you couldn't stop Lucas from ending the match.
Milo: So...
Dave: Yes Holland... what you did there... was screw yourself.
Milo: I'm sorry.
Dave: Like I always say, Holland, don't be sorry, just don't do it again. By all means don't stop climbing, but when you come down don't splash people. Focus on lariats where you land on your feet and can recover with little to no damage to yourself and enhanced damage to your opponent coupled with your own strength, you see.
Milo: Yes.
Dave: Good. Then I think you're ready for stage two.
Milo: What's stage two?
Dave: Where we stop analysing what you can't do, and concentrate on what you can.
Milo: That it? I know what I can do.
Dave: But what you don't know... is what else you could do.
Milo: Like what?
*Dave removes his lab coat and reveals that he is wearing his wrestling gear underneath.*
Dave: Come with me.
*The scene fades to black with 3 words across the screen and some final words from Milo.*
This should be good.
